Hi Friends, Natalie here!
This morning my daughter had her St. Patrick’s Day celebration at preschool and when we were told she could bring her favorite GREEN treat to share with the class she knew EXACTLY what she wanted to bring… HOMEMADE OREO COOKIES!!
Now normally our Oreo cookie frosting isn’t GREEN but that’s what we love about these delicious little things, you can literally make the frosting ANY color you’d like so you can have them for ANY occasion.
We have strong Irish roots in our family so we thought it would be fun to kick these cookies up a notch and try something new for St Patrick’s Day. In the past we have dipped the store bought Oreos in chocolate and they turned out great. So we thought “why not dip our homemade Oreos?” You guys!! These turned out UNBELIEVABLY GOOD!! Like DANGEROUSLY GOOD!!
We had a blast making our cookies and if you have little ones who love to help decorate the. these are the perfect cookies for you!
So grab the recipe below and have a HAPPY AND SWEET ST. PATTY’S DAY!!
HOMEMADE OREO COOKIES
1- Box Devil’s Food Cake
1/2 Cup- Shortening
Combine all ingredients together until dough forms. Roll dough into dime sized balls and place on a baking sheet. Bake cookies at 350 for 8 minutes. After about 5 minutes, remove cookies from the pan and allow them to cool completely on a cooling rack.
CREAM CHEESE FROSTING
8 oz- Cream Cheese
1/2 Cup- Butter
2 tsp- Vanilla
3-4 Cups- Powdered Sugar
**Food coloring of your choice*
Mix Cream Cheese and Butter until smooth. Add vanilla. Slowly add Powdered Sugar one cup at a time and mix until smooth. Add desired food coloring.
Frost the BACK sides of the cookies and then press them together to create a cookie sandwich.
CHOCOLATE DIPPED OREOS
1- Package Chocolate Melts
**Place your Oreo cookies in the fridge or freezer while you prepare the chocolate dip**
Follow the directions to melt your favorite chocolate melts. Remove your chilled cookies and dip one side in the chocolate melt, remove and place on a parchment lined baking sheet. Add sprinkles or your choice of decoration and allow the chocolate to dry completely before moving them. (I place mine back in the fridge and like to serve them chilled)
There you have it! ENJOY!
